For Wine as Noble as the Great Trees

High in the coastal mountains of Mendocino County, Mariah Vineyards sits on a mountaintop above the fog from the nearby Pacific beyond and below, like Islands in the Sky™. Its appellation is Mendocino Ridge, the world's first non-contiguous appellation that starts at an elevation of 1,200 ft. and goes up from there to Mariah Vineyards at 2,600 ft. Currently there are six world-class vineyards in this unique AVA.

Family-owned and operated, we have been sustainably farming since 1979. We exclusively use solar power, and our tractors run on biodiesel.

The humble outstretched arms of grape vines are held in place upon this mountain with roots reaching into the same rugged soil as once did their predecessors, the majestic fir trees. Silently, through countless seasons, the great trees sent their twisting underground branches into the soil of this mountain. The minute fingers of their roots reached into and held, drew from, and returned the minerals, exchanging the life of the sun's warmth and the clouds' moisture.

Time, light, and the cycle of trees transformed the mountain rock into a living carpet of soil. We planted grapevines into this ageless soil knowing that the life and energy of the forest had created the ideal ground to hold and nourish them. Our understanding of the fragile lifeforms webbed beneath the surface of the vineyard, coupled with our nurturing stewardship of the soil, has been rewarded with vibrantly healthy vines producing wines as noble as the great trees.
